There's nothing wrong with boosting in that situation. He was accelerating, got up past the point where his turbo spooled. Just because he didn't short-shift below the 2000-something rpm the stock 14b would spool at and lug it through the turn with all the off-boost power 7.8 compression ratio gives you, he's a "hard-ass"?
