The brake pad doesn't need to come all the way down. Braking force is pad area, coefficient of friction, and the mid-pad distance from center (and pressure and some other less important stuff). In fact, if you added 50% more pad area to fill in the inner part, you would get a lot less than 50% brake force back. That's why pads are rectangular the way they are and not rotated 90*. The problem with this setup is that you've got a bunch of heavy, friction area in the middle that you're not using, and could be replaced by a lighter, larger hat. For the drop in the bucket that this kit is, it's easily overlooked.
You just need something out back now to balance out the now-huge front bias.
Z32 setups are not invincible by any means. Where's Patrick L and his tales of easily overheating a Z32 setup with a fairly mild S13SR at Sebring?
