ITR tranny + new clutch setup for The Ark?
I'm not 100% sure on the condition of the tranny currently in the Ark, but i'm paranoid about such things esp since its hard to get into 2nd gear and my dads gsr is the easiest shifting car of all time.
Tranny has the above problem. hard to get into 2nd. I'm guessing it has 130K miles on it to match the odometer and is from the origional car. Should i replace with another GSR tranny or an ITR one? or just rebuild the one i have? Axles also creak if i am turning the wheel really hard and also going up a grade (like trying to get into a wendy's parking lot that is much higher up than the road without beaching the car on the incline)
The clutch pedal dosent come up all the way, you have to pull it up with your toes. If the car is in anything but 1st. and i leave it where it pops up to.. There is a noise, i cant realy explain i think its higher pitched but when i manually pull the pedal up with my foot it goes away.. Maybe this is the clutch slipping i dont know. The clutch in the car prob has 40-45K miles on it now and its an ITR clutch. I tried several launches last night.. All slipping, one from 4000 - 5000- 5800.. first 2 did ok but didnt hook perfect, the last one hooked great (i was surprised how quick it got going) but the shift into second slipped a lil so i let off... AFterwords the reeking clutch smell (oops!). the smell went away and the clutch is grabbing fine today, i dont think i did any permenant damage.
So for now the car is probabally fine and I could leave it this way for a while but.. If i really wanted to be in good shape for autox'ing / more drag / and circut racing I was thinking an ITR tranny with a Spec or ACT clutch would be perfect.. LSD for the corners and better clutch for getting outta the hole.
Talk amongst yourselves.
Mike
