Locked threads ARE moderating. Lets take for example, the thread posted just below this one, asking about users moderating their own threads. Good question. Good thread. Fucked up by people taking the time to post up their own problems (which we can't solve). We could spend 10 minutes weeding through the crap, deleting stuff and putting the thread back on track.

Or I can answer the guys PM and lock the thread. Takes much less time.

I have 880 unread PM's, out of over 4000. It's a little busy around here. My admins are working hard, same with the mods. There is a report post button, if you havent reported a post, then how can we deal with it?

Report the damn posts people. You are the eyes and ears. I get emailed on every reported post. A thread gets created with the details of every reported post. It's better than PMing me about a problem post, it goes to ALL the admins.

I know you are going to say, "well hey, let the OP delete the posts". Problem is, same deal with neg rep, people can't be trusted with power like that, it is ALWAYS used to grief some poor kid they just don't like, or get back at that guy who deleted their post in a thread previously.

The logistics just don't work in our favor, now I've got more he said/she said bullshit to deal with, and nothing is more annoying than having 2 completely different sides of the same story and having to try and work out who is right.

So to sum it up, I understand your concern, there is more to it than that and I dont think it's going to solve more problems than it creates.

Hit the report post button, type in a useful explanation and we will deal with it.
