OK I have an open front diff....welded center diff.....and stock LSD rear diff.

After having my tranny rebuilt I had the center diff welded. I was also hoping that this would fix my massive driveline vibration. It didnt. I was pretty pissed at this point and decided to drive around FWD since this was now an option to see if the vibration went away. It did. a few months later. This weekend I decided to look into fixing it so I could run the 14th. I figured it must be the rear diff as it was making a whine as I drove down the road. I got another rear diff out off a friends werecked AWD. Swapped it this weekend. Still the same problem. At this point pretty upset. I figured driveshaft out of wack.

I went to Lancermanns house tonight to get a driveshaft to swap in. Jack up the car. Take off the front carier bearing. Get one bolt off of the rear driveshaft mount. Lancerman discovers it. I said damn the rear diff is so hot I cant touch it. He looked at my front tires. The fronts are very worn and the rears are new. This IS the problem.

The difference in tire diameter is obviously causing the fronts to spin slightly faster than the rears. With no where for the bound up energy to go it was being disapated through the driveshaft. Heating up the rear diff. Burning up the fluid.

I have two spares on the front now and its much better. I ordered 4 new Khumos 225/50/16s for the car. Its still a slight bit different in diameter and the fronts being spares now squeel with a slight turn of the wheel. Trying to spin at the same rate as the rears.

I am embarased about this being the problem but it just goes to show you are always learning about cars. You are never done. I really should have figured this out sooner. It just seemed too violent to be that. I should have known after the viscous coupler welded itself together......

I just hope that maybe this post will save one other person from going throgh the same hell I did for the last 4-5 months. The car rolls more freely now up to a stop. Before it would literally stop on its own without brakes from 10MPH.
