ignore my last statement. For future reference, you don't have to cut the cat itself in half. You don't even have to take the cat off. All you need is access to one side of it through the exhaust piping. Jam something hard into it and break it all up. Then start the vehicle and floor it. The gas pressure pushes out all the pieces of the cat.
Or if you want to do it the really good way, take the cat off, without cutting it in half, and just start chiseling away at the stuff inside from one of the ends of the cat. Both save you from having to reweld your cat back closed.
