I don't see how the dealer wouldn't be liable for the CEL. Isn't there some sort of safety standard that their cars have to meet before they can sell it? IE: when you turn the key to the "ON" position without starting the car, all the lights on the dashboard should light up to test them. I would figure this is a big safety issue if the ABS/Airbag/CEL/TCS lights don't come up.
Sucks about your luck with the shitty car. You should know better next time about running a Carfax and maybe taking it to a 3rd party mechanic next time.
That's what I was getting at. The law is pretty strict on check engine lights also as it's mostly emissions. If you can secretlly get people to sign "This car is a peice of shit and the airbag light/cel bulbs may have been taken out and we didn't check to make sure that they're not there, and it will literally take us 10 seconds to do, but we like to fuck you", then the law wouldn't be there in the first place.
This thread is the reason why I'd never buy a car from a peice of shit salesman at a peice of shit lot.
I did however go to a couple of small struggling pos places and powershift the fuck out of their manual cars with no intesnion of buying them last week though. Good times
