Are those lenses plastic? Is the smoking a paint? What I've found to work great to remove paint without f-ing the plastic is Castrol Super Clean degreaser (walmart). Soak it in that for 3-4 hours and it'll just wipe off with a damp cloth. Never tried it on clear plastic, though. Beats scraping/sanding by a long shot!
