First off what car do you have?
If you are driving a civic then .02-.04 is way off. Maybe you misread it? Maybe you were looking at the mm readings instead of inches.
Anyways for a D-series engine valve lash should be .007-.009intake and .009-.011exhaust. If you want to be certain just check under the hood and look at the sticker there. You can actually set your valve lash a little tighter than that if you feel inclined to tune but Id be careful about doing that incase you burn an exhaust valve.
