First time I've heard profanity at TED... But I've been to his 4-day seminar and I know it's all part of his act.

Freud discovered that in every culture there are words which are considered taboo: words that are rarely spoken aloud, but, when they are, produce a dynamic transformation in the emotional responsiveness of the listener. He was one of the first clinical practitioners to use intense language and taboo words with a therapeutic aim. In this tradition, Anthony Robbins, at times, deliberately uses shocking language in order to establish an atmosphere of honesty and emotional authenticity. While not given a place in polite society, these words can be used to trigger deeper emotions.

This language is used strategically, according to the specific situation, to spark the participant to achieve a higher level of accountability.
