Im glad you believe everything the stealership tells you. You are the type of person that doesnt take it in till it breaks. Not to mention if you did a little research you'd discover that they need to be replaced at 60K to prevent your belt from getting teeth ripped off and having your pistons kiss you valves. Honestly I hope that this happens before you sell it and not after someone buys it. G/L.

Not sure about VW's 1.8t models, but with Audi, as long as the belt is inspected at every service interval, you are covered up to 105,000 miles. If it breaks, Audi will replace the entire engine free of charge (assuming there is damage).
