True, but, there aren't many clean, low-mileage 2G AWD's out there for $2500. $1k can net him a decent used kit. If you pair that with another $1k to build the bottom end, $500 for a MegaSquirt, $800 on a Quaife, and $300 for a decent clutch, it would only be $3500 for a 20PSI capable car that retains 100% of stock daily drivability. This is assuming he could do it himself... Which apparently is out of the question.

But, you're right, as It's quite a lot more work when everything isn't already done for you.
