If i was gonna build an LS/Vtec i would definently turbo it...If your gonna Go turbo route id say use the following
-GSR head
-small t25/t28 turbo
-Good rods
-low comp. pistons (maybe some vitaras)
-I/H/E
-Walboro 255 FP
-Some DSM injectors
-little bigger cam
And The last and most important thing.. A TUNE..Dont turbo your car and not tune it. It will most likely run shittier than it did stock. And if you get on it alot there is a very good chance that you blow your motor up and be back at square one..Even if you cant afford a Dyno tune atleast let somebody Street tune your shit.
*edit* oh and about the gas thing
When your getting on it and your using all your power then ya your definently burnin up your gas..But when your daily driving and not really using the turbo it will most likely be the same Mpg as before if not like 1 or 2 mpg better
