I wanted to build my 420a--then decided not to just because I want a truck. Building a 420a is really pretty reasonable. I had a 2.4 bottom end, along with a COMPLETE, FULLY BUILT head that came directly from Crane Cams that I got for a grand. Find some srt internals for that 2.4, and you have yourself a pretty nasty longblock you put together for reasonably cheap.

Spraying it will not only cost you less, but probably end up running better than turboing your 420a.

Everybody knocks the 420a because its weak stock. Pistons/rods (along with supporting mods ie fuel etc) and its a strong fucking motor
