Is a hood scope kinda like a periscope? It's the scope that allows you to see around your scoop?

On a more serious note though....The fwd facing scoop ONLY helps in a "ram air" type application IF you have a carb pan under it. And then, it's actually worth it. (I think they add like 15 hp that way in the top end)

A cowl hood helps to remove heat from under the hood. The vacume pulls the hot air out allowing the carb/intake to suck in cooler more dense air, thereby making more HP.

Both work to make HP....one requires more(the fwd scoop) than the other(cowl). One is less expensive (scoop) than the other (cowl). One looks better (cowl) than the other(scoop). It's all up to the individual.

My cobra has the fwd nostril scoops as well as a 3" cowl to clear the engine.

On my 67, I have a cowl hood. I used to have a fwd scoop and 15 yrs ago, it looked bad ass....but now...it kinda looks silly. :/
