sorry i have long tubes X pipe into a mac catback... i forgot to mention that.
although i dont think it would be in need of more fuel i kept the stock fuel injectors with an aeromotive fpr.
would upping the compression with some pistons/rods combo w/a bit of nitrous do the trick maybe? at least if the leakdown comes back okay ..
anyways.....
I am in no way blaming the shop that installed the cams!!!
i am just not happy with the result of installing these. i was hoping that i was going to gain some power up top with these and all i eneded up with was lost power all around. brian did tune it up as well as he could without a dyno but i dont know im just unhappy.... i was told about the head/intake swap was necessary, but now im hearing different. im just discouraged and in need of guidance.
Perhaps you can get together with Brian and get some dyno time and get him to retune your car for you. I know he's a very good tuner,.. and even with out a dyno,.. he's done enough of them to know what will make power and what wont.
If your car lost power,.. it might be possible there is an underlying problem that you are not aware of. I know that cam swaps on 4v motors dont bring the huge power gains that the cost of the cams would speculate there to be. Another reason why many dont bother with cams until they have exhausted all other efforts. But I'm with you and agree,.. you should have made hp and not lost it.
Hopefully the guys can help you out.
Edit:
In your mod list your listing C&L intake tube but also a MAC CAI. This intake tube,.. are you referring to the MAF? I know of several people,.. myself included,.. that have had problems with C&L MAF's. Do you have a stock MAF you can try?
Also,.. if you can afford some forged rods and pistons you could open your options to making a lot more HP. Low compression pistons if you chose to go a turbo or blower,.. or higher compression to stay NA or do a nitrous route.
$300 is a good price for the heads and intake. Compared to what they normally go for,.. thats almost free. If your going to do pistons and rods,.. then I could justify moving to the later style heads and intake. I dont think you will see the power gains your looking for with just the heads and intake,.. but with those heads it does give you more intake options to choose from later on down the road,.. as well as going with a KB or whipple setup.
