I'm not sure, but from what I understand, it will only record events if they happen 3 times within one driving cycle. (From the time you start to the time you turn it off is one driving cycle) But I could be wrong. I'm not a "real" mechanic. I just tinker on my cars.

If your check engine light is not on, then it most likely has not recorded anything, so pulling the codes won't net you anything. If you CAN, it would be best to take it to a shop, and have them hook it up then take it out for a drive so they can see what the computer is saying WHEN the event happens. But thats in a "perfect world".
