My neighbor had a Contour SVT, and it was a pretty decent car for the time, he just sold it a couple years ago. It had a V-6 and 5 speed, it moved pretty well and didn't look half bad.
The Contour was very reliable and respectably performing, even with the 2.0 Zetec.
