I use multiple sources of lighting to find swirls, the halogen being one of the better ways, yes not as good as the actual sun HENCE full sun reflection shots along WITH the halogens. A sungun is a nice tool, not completely necessary but I do plan to get one soon..either way you need a good eye to find them in certain lighting besides the sun..
I know you can find the swirls with what you have but you can't see them in pictures I know that for a fact. I did a BMW and the trunk was filled with minor scratches and swirls. Pictures spoke a 1,000 words but eye it up and turn your head side to side you'll see them.
