Drive the car in, turn it off, open the door, and walk into the shop. Ask for the manager, and let him know what you want done, let him look at the car, and give you a quote. Ask him what length of time the problem would take to fix.

If the length of time is adequate enough for you wait, then let him know you will wait on the work to be done. This will be a good time to ask if you can see them work on the car because you are trying to get learning experience with working on your car. He may tell you no because of safety and insurance purposes, or he may call you a fucking faggot for owning a SR20ed car and not knowing how to work on it.

Wait for work to be done, pay the bill, take the keys and receipt, tell the shop thank you, grab a card for future calling purposes, get inside car, turn car on, test drive around shop, then head home.
