you should not have spliced wires to wires.

you should run a clean ground(black) from the chassis and a clean power wire(yellow) from the ignition column. You can also run a clean accessory(red) wire from there but you don't have to.


You also might have the illumination wire from the harness connected to the ground of the stereo. This would lead to a reset when you shut the car off and also dim the clock display when driving.
