I went through a real greddy typeS and a knock off typeS before I bought my 1g BOV. Both the knock off and the Greddy leaked.
The Greddy that came on the car had exactly 10k mi. on it when I bought the car. I didn't know it was leaking until I got DSMLink and I started monitoring airflow. I did a few boost leak tests and I couldn't find anything. So I bumped the PSI up and it pushed the valve open on BOV. Then, the knock offs diaphram split 3 weeks after I installed it.
I hear the SSQV knock offs aren't as bad, but you must recirculate them (like mentioned before, HKS sells the recirc kit) They each sound a little different, videos of each can be seen on youtube.
My advice;
Sell the knock off then buy a 1g BOV, and call it a day. When you are ready to run more boost all you have to do is "crush" it. Crushing the 1g bov compresses the spring that holds the relief valve closed. It simulates a firmer spring, and is the equivilent to the <---Hard Soft---> screw on some Blow off Valves.
1g BOV can be bought new from Mitsubishi for around $100 but used ones can be found for less than $20. "DodgeGarage" modified a 1g BOV and they are running 30psi with a little crushing and a single drill hole.
