get a used 350z for like 13-14K, wheels, susp. done.
spend other moneys on savings, insurance, etcs.

if he likes cars but isn't into fixing them, i'd really advise against anything S-chassis, as it's going to be a minimum of 11 years old by now. the IS300 is also a good choice.

The S2K is nice, but insurance will kill him.
