Well I'll say this. Take it for what it is.
I started my career in the automotive industry with Hondas. Over the next 7 years I owned 4 Integras, 3 CRX's, a S2000, and a Civic. In that time, I've broken everything you can think of. Diffs, axles, clutch master cylinders, axles, valves, camshafts, pistons, rods, axles, transmissions, rear ends, axles, rings, bearings, etc et axles. They were 3 times broken into, once attempted theft of the entire car. I've had them in all sorts of state of tune, from a 53whp 110% stock engined CRX HF to a 600whp Civic.
Today, I drive a 2003 Lancer Evolution. Its not a car without its faults or its problems. But in 3.5 years of ownership, I have only been stranded once - a blown intercooler coupling, caught me without any tools. Its been in various states of tune from stock to 350whp. I've road raced it, drag raced it, modified it, many many times over. No different than any other car I've owned. And I don't exactly baby my car around town either. The only things I've had fail on me are the sunroof, battery, and clutch master cylinder. Aside from the sunroof, the other I consider to be "wear n tear" items. The Evo's stock "problematic fragile clutch" lasted me to 50k, with 30k of those being my time behind the wheel. It wasn't replaced due to failure; rather I pulled it with plenty of life left in order to upgrade. Never had to use the warranty either, the one that Mitsu is so quick to revoke over mods. This is the longest I've owned any daily driver, or even longer than project cars that sat motionless for months on end. And it has been more reliable than any of the Hondas I've owned sans the 1990 stock CRX HF that had 180k miles on it. The only time I've been without my car is when I've scheduled bigger jobs for when I would go out of town. Never unexpectedly.
I'm by no means a biased car owner. I'm not in the least brand loyal. And I won't sit here and tell you that Hondas are not reliable, nor would I recommend my Lancer to most prospective buyers. Honda in fact builds an amazing car, and the Lancer has its quirks. But for the way I drive my car, the constant (but rarely excessive) abuse I put my cars through, and for its pro's and cons its a good fit for my style.
Your mileage may vary.
