My Experience with BVP/Gadiel Tuning
I want everyone to know my experience I had with Big Valley Performance in Orlando for the past week, and maybe itll give someone second thoughts on taking their car here so it doesnt wind up getting ruined.
Let me just throw out there im not a mechanic, im not a car tech, i know the basic maintenance of a car (changing oil, other fluids, tires, gas, etc) Ive never worked in a garage on cars before, so obviously im not as mechanically inclined as everyone else is who works here.
Friday Oct 3rd: Victor calls me and says I need to have my car at BVP by tonight. I said in the gadiel tuning thread i work til 6pm, i wont have the car there til late. he was fine with it, i wind up getting off work a few hours early, go home eat and get ready and get to BVP by 7pm. Gadiel and some BVP techs are outside and they look at my mods i have in my trunk. (helix catless dp, hks exhaust, grimmspeed up pipe w/38mm external wastegate) gadiel says hes going to have to weld the external wastegate onto my stock internal wastegate. i asked if thats a bad thing, is that reccomended, should i even install it? Gadiel said it will be fine. I listened because obviously he knows alot more than I do. Victor says the mods should be installed and the car should be ready to go on the dyno around 2pm Saturday. I said ok, i leave my car there overnight and i leave back to riverview and come back the next day at 230pm.
Saturday Oct 4th: I arrive at BVP at 230pm and the car hasnt even been touched. I asked howcome the parts havent been installed yet, whats taking so long? Victor said he didnt know that the wastegate had to be welded, even though Gadiel said the night before it had to be welded directly infront of him, and that hes missing a "220 connection" wire to the welder, and he sent an electrician to go buy one. it took this electrician over 6 hours to go to a home depot and buy this part. my car wasnt worked on til about 8pm they finally start installing. after hours of time sitting on a couch and smelling exhaust fumes, the car is probably done around 11pm-1145pm. cars were getting dynod and i had to wait in line. Gadiel asked me if i had a boost controller to go along with the external wastegate, i said No, I showed you all my modifications in my trunk last night and asked if this is going to be fine and you said yes. He makes a face of concern that i kept seeing him make all night working on my car and it was irritating me. he said it should be fine after the tune, he doesnt recommend it, but he said it will be fine. i said whatever you dont recommend remove the parts and tune it. he said it will be ok. so he gets inside my car and starts tuning. hes tuning for about 45 and only did 1 dyno run within that 45 minutes, he keeps getting out of the car and looking under my hood rigging something and cutting some wires. i didnt ask what he was doing because i figured he was being a perfectionist and modifying the car the way it should be. after about an hour he only dynos my car 4 times total. when other cars i seen for 12 hrs all day got about 12-15 dyno runs. either way i only dynod at 293 hp with stock boost because when he turned up the boost, i was actually getting less hp. i asked him during the tuning if everything is going ok because i kept seeing him making concerned faces and it looks like he was getting irritated by the situation. he assured me again everything will be fine. its just taking so long because the computer is uploading all the information into the car. after this long ass 11 hour day of sitting at BVP, i finally take off to get some gas. i filled up and in 5 mins away from BVP and my check engine light is on and my cruise control is blinking. according to Victor and Gadiel, they said thats normal. that happens to everycar that gets tuned. they said i have to go to sears or discount auto parts and buy some $40 mechanism that erases those codes off my dashboard everytime they pop up. My car has 16,000 miles on it, i didnt want to erase codes daily by plugging something into my car, but i figured id deal with it since i had a "World Known" tuner tune my car to its peak it could go to with my modifications. I told Victor im nervous about driving the car because how will i ever know if theres a real problem if the check engine light keeps coming on and i keep deleting it? Victor verbally gauranteed me i will NEVER have a problem with this car. i Baby the car on i4 back to riverview going 65mph on cruise control, i never floored the car once, i never even got to play around with the speed because it was 230am, i didnt want a ticket and i just wanted to get home safe.
Sunday Oct 5th: I wake up at 8am because im so excited about the car and i take it for a drive, i just pull out of my neighborhood and my dad calls my cell, he said get your ass back here because your car is leaking fluids. i drive 2 mins back home and theres Oil all over my driveway. i call victor and let my dad talk to him about the car. victor tries to tell my dad im the one who ruined the car, i drove it too hard and i probably broke something. not only is that a lie, but even if i did, whats the point of a tune if you cant drive it like you stole it at some point? victor tells my dad he'll tow the car back to Orlando to BVP and look at the problem. if its anything they did he'll have it fixed. turns out it was a washer in the oil line that was bad according to victor, and the car is fine now.
Monday Oct 6th: Me and my dad drive out to orlando to pickup my car, they said the car is fine, they test drove it, no problems what so ever its ready to go. im on the way home and i figured since everything is FINALLY ok, ill give the car some gas to feel this Stg II power. i give my car gas in 3rd gear and it doesnt pass 3500 rpms. this car has no boost what so ever. im fucking Irate at this point, can anyone blame me for that? i knew something was bad on saturday, i had a gut feeling and i WISH i would of NEVER gone to this performance shop. This place is an unorganized piece of shit in my opinion. i call Victor and ask why is my car driving like this, he said bring it back and we'll dyno it and find out whats wrong. I drive back the BVP and Victor calls Gadiel, he says the external wastegate is so loud its throwing off the Noc/Nox (sp?) censor , and the "computer is going crazy and doesnt know what to do because of the noise". so i asked WHAT is going to finally get this thing fixed and running correctly. Victor said he'll connect the dump tube i have to the external wastegate, i asked why didnt you do that to begin with? he didnt know. turns out a BVP tech inside said he has to fabricate a custom pipe to connect the wastegate to the dumptube, i DONT want a custom part, i asked him to remove the wastegate and retune the car and if that would be fine. he said yes that should fix it. but thats the last resort, right now victor said we're going to turn up your boost with a manual boost controller and see if that helps it. they put my car on the dyno and its a BVP tech that connected a manual boost controller to my motor with a boost gauge. they dyno it and turn up the boost. after about 12 dyno runs the whole back area was fogged up with black smoke everywhere. i asked victor why is my car smoking, he said its because the oil that leaked 2 days before is just burning off from being hot. they reverse the car off because it wasnt fixed and i drive it home not hitting any higher then 3rpms. i finally decide Fuck these modifications, screw the whole deal tune my car back to stock because obviously they do not know what theyre doing.
Sometime within the week i brought the car back and one of Jestr's tuners put it back to stock, and they put all the stock parts back on. a waste of over $2500.00 of mine, a waste of a ton of gas money, and a waste of time especially. to this day my check engine light and cruise control still blinks. im actually scared to drive the car fast. im going to take it to someone who knows what theyre doing to fix this problem. everyone recommends BVP, everyone recommends a gadiel tune. ive never read anything bad about BVP or gadiel, but i guess im the lucky one and i got screwed out of the whole entire deal. Victor tried to blame me for basing my decision off what someone said online for my car not runing right, that i didnt do enough research. which i can understand that point, however, why didnt you just let me know this setup wouldnt work and just install it and ruin the nxt few months of someones life, because im now working a 3rd shift job full time and i have a prt time job in the morning so i can pay this credit card off ASAP and can afford my other bills. I think its bullshit i wasted so much money just to probably ruins yrs of my motor life. im sure i left out tons of detail in this thread, but for the most part thats MY experience with BVP. granted many of you with evos/stis/mr2s/supras whatever the car may be had a GREAT experience with BVP, i unfortunately didn't.
