Ok, updates the CAI no CEL****
I have been doing some thinking, and I realized it's just not worth the minimal gains to gamble with something like a CAI w/o a tune. I stress out everytime I drive my car and it's note even fun anymore. I put the stock box back on, but left the Perrin MAF hose, turbo inlet, and fender part of CAI intact.
This is why I'm aborting the custom CAI:
Personal reasons:
1. Too much stress on myself because I don't enjoy driving anymore. It's always a "test" and not just a "Joy ride". This sucks, and it's not the reason I bought a wrx.
2. Minimal gains for amount of stress, time, and money involved.
3. I'm more reluctant to go off-road, which is the reason why I bought the wrx in the first place. Cheaper on gas than a jeep but can almost go just as far, and is actually fun to drive on the road.
Scientific reason:
For this sole reason I am aborting the whole CAI idea all together because the filter is x amount of distance away from the maf in the stock setup, and changing that is BAD regardless of a tune. To place the MAF sensor correctly with a CAI, the sensor would be placed in the fender, exposing it to all sorts of nastyness. The filter straightens the air as well as bends, flows, plenums, etc. The ridges and form of the stock box also helps aid in smoothing out the air, if you look it channels it perfectly. There are no "air" channels in a CAI.
I'm completely aborting the CAI. Never again. I'm just glad I didn't blow my motor up.
