Keith. I used to keep it in 4th @ 130mph all the way across the bridge. Your engine should have sufficient cooling for this. If it doesn't there's something wrong.

He also said he was doing 65 in 4th, not 80mph. I realize you had a short geared tranny, but it should NOT have over heated the engine.
