Thanks Jake. I melted a couple of things with the soldering iron too, simply because I don't have steady hands. I found that if you solder the end of the tube that has the wire on it first then everything fits in properly. If you do the other end first (as I did the first time) then it's nearly impossible to get everything back together.
I'm still having an issue with the flash not zooming past 70mm because I bent the little copper zoom prongs pretty badly. I went the whole way without bending them at all, and then within five minutes of finishing i bent them all about 90 degrees.
