U.S. 92 now open after fatal motorcycle crash
DOVER -- A 50-year-old motorcycle passenger died and the 47-year-old cycle driver was seriously injured in an early morning crash on U.S. 92 at Pinebrook Place, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Paul David Gatta of Thonotosassa was traveling east on U.S. 92 and, for unknown reasons, drove off the road onto the northbound shoulder about 4:15 a.m.
Gatta's motorcycle overturned in a ditch parallel to the road and struck a chain link fence before coming to a stop. Both Gatta and his female passenger, Angela Maria Fattarusso, of Plant City, were thrown off the bike.
Gatta was flown to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition, and Fattarusso died at the scene.
The intersection of U.S. 92, which was closed in both directions for several hours, is now open.
