FHP: Motorcyclist speeding before I-275 crash that killed him
TAMPA -- Troopers say a
22-year-old man who died in an accident along Interstate 275 early today was speeding on his motorcycle before crashing.
Terrance Terrell Turner of Tampa
died at the scene of the accident on southbound I-275, south of State Road 60, about 12:25 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said that Turner was traveling
"at an extremely high rate of speed" in the inside lane of 275 as he approached a slower traveling vehicle and tried to avoid hitting the car in front of him.
As Turner began to brake, he lost control of his 2005 Honda motorcycle and slid under the 1995 Toyota Camry he was trying to avoid.
The impact caused the Camry's driver, 35-year-old Jose Luis Pineda Cortez of Tampa, to lose control and rotate counter clockwise before striking a median barrier wall.
Pineda Cortez was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries. Troopers said a passenger inside the Camry was uninjured.
