I don't quite follow, either.

I had the first pic in my mind before I even left for the shoot. I wanted a new shot for a "Post Your Work Wheels" thread, and wanted to isolate my wheel in the picture. The dark areas that didn't adjust by sliding levels got adjusted by a black paintbrush.
