Yes there are Vin plates on the motors by the oil pans and on the bell housings like previously mentioned. If they are removed then the motor is probably stolen.

Things to note;
-Cable trannies had a sticker for a vin number and it is not uncommon for those to not be there anymore.
-Motors bought new from the dealer do not have Vin's because they never came in a car. I have a 00 type R block bought new from the dealer and it has a different stamp on it "R DOT" which I believe signifies a dealer bought block.
