It's not his fault, he's a college kid, that explains it all. Most colleges are the liberal bastions of teachers who have never had to go out and work for a living.
He's never been shot at, never had someone close to him shot, never had to wade through chest deep polluted water to evacuate someone in a hurricane, and never had to put yourself through college at age 48 because your parents couldn't afford it when you were young.
But, these kids know it all because they've read about it someplace. the reality of it is, that once these people get a life, they change their tune. Reality is like that (even I voted for a democrat once, once).
I'm so glad that I live in a country that accepts people from every place on earth, All you have to do is show up, become a citizen and pay taxes and you're in. My wife is Vietnamese, and her family was run out of Laos after the democratic congress refused to support the south vietnamese government in 1975. Her family came over here with nothing and they worked like dogs, they didn't whine because this was a crappy country, they were just glad they had a place where they had an opportunity to succeed.
