I've sent both the coordinators of FAST and the SCCA each others contact information a couple times. I don't think either one of them cares about the other organization. The response I got from the SCCA was, "There are so many clubs around here that there will always be conflicts."
Yes, FAST was the first to publish their schedule, but the SCCA schedule had already been set by then, just not published. Because as soon as the FAST schedule was published, I sent it to the SCCA coordinator. The only way things will change is if FAST and the SCCA coordinators actually work together before setting a schedule.
Last year I was told, in so many words, "better get started on a schedule for next season." So I did. I tried to find out when other clubs were running, and tried to avoid those dates (I found little information available at that point). I also tried to avoid major holidays. I tried to mix Saturday and Sunday events, and also tried to vary which day the event was at which site. I tried to come up with a schedule to suit the majority of the people who attend our events.
Do I "care" about SCCA? Earlier this year I came across a possible double-booking at B'ville - not just the same date, but also the same site. I sent email to 2 folks from SCCA, on Jan. 21. By Feb 17, I hadn't heard anything, and sent email to a third guy. He answered quickly, and referred me back to one of the original guys I emailed. On Feb 18, I emailed 'em again. It was March 3 before I finally got a response (along with an apology for the delay, which was nice). Points are, a: why didn't someone from SCCA check the schedule for conflicts? You said you sent them the schedule... And b: why would I want to coordinate with a group that's non-responsive? If it took 6 weeks to get a response about one date, what should I expect in trying to coordinate 11 dates? Further, I've been told that, as far as the folks who usually attend our events, those affected by having a choice between two events on the same day are a large minority. And, I, to a degree, agree with the quoted SCCA response about there being too many clubs to try to coordinate with.
Be that as it may, I'll be starting work on next year's FAST schedule at some point in the Fall. If any club wants to try to coordinate next year's schedule, I'll be happy to try to work things out with them. All they gotta do is ask.
