It'll be an INCREDIBLY tough sell that's easily defensible in court. It would be impossible to draw the line. How would an intake and headers on an Accent make it a "race" car, when Mustang GTs, Chargers, Camaros, and a slew of other cars are capable of DOUBLING the highest speed limit
If, for example, it's your third violation, you've been to court, you've payed the fines, and they STILL catch you doing it. I'm pro-crush. But if they get you once for a spur-of-the-moment chance encounter at a red light....it'll be a tough sell to the judge to crush your car. Especially if it is your daily to get to work and whatnot.
But seriously, if you've been caught by the police multiple times...enough times to warrant something like this...you deserve it.
There is the key phrase. enough times to warrant something like this. The problem is, cops really do just roll around looking for reasons to pull over "those kinds of cars" trust me, I've been pulled over plenty of times, just so the cop could "take a look" at my basically stock car. Most of those stops resulted in a street racing ticket/court date. Everyone one of them was thrown out becuase it was stupid. Ever since they got rid of that law, I've not gotten pulled over for those stupid ass reasons. All it would take would be to give the cops back that power and they will abuse it just like they did last time. I agree, if you get caught several times, in the act of street racing, then your car should be taken away for a given amount of time. There is no reason to crush the car. What good does that do? Really, think about it. What would that accomplish, other than ecouraging the street racers to run from the cops. Why not just impound the car, and in a few months, sell it at the auction like they already do? And I would only agree with that, if they can define street racing as something more than "trying to overtake another vehicle" I'll be damned if I loose my car cuz I was merging on the interstate.
