You can advance timing on ethanol because its the equivalent of higher octane gasoline.....
Side note, +1 to the E85 being different from E10, E10 is what the gas stations carry, E85 is 85% Ethanol, and isn't widely sold. Cars running E85 can run more aggressive timing and make more power, and if you don't believe that then tell Saab. They ran two identical turbo cars in a race, one on E85 with more aggressive timing, the other on high octane gasoline, the E85 car walked on the gasoline car in the drag race.

I agree, e85 has some major advantages, but not the less than 10% crap. that little bit works very differently...
