Even if the engine is sludged up, I'd think it would still be a good deal for a running 2000 model..the motor could be swapped or rebuilt and it would still be well under book. But for 800 bucks, if it is messy in there, I would probably just drop the oil pan and wipe all that crap out, clean the head out, change the oil a few times and drive it till it seizes.
