4 cylinder Porsche Autocross
For those who did not get the email.
This will be on Sunday, May 4th at Zypherhills.
(The autocross is actually open to all cars,
but if you have a BWM, Brooksville is a way better location.)
Thanks to a suggestion from a club member, our May 4th autocross will have a special twist. It’s time for our 4 cylinder Porsche owners to shine. Two teams will form to compete for the Fast Four Festival World Challenge Cup*. (*Once again that dang legal department is making me divulge that there is no actual trophy involved, but the top 5 four cylinder cars on the winning team will receive a certificate for a free entry to a future autocross event, plus whatever prizes our fine sponsors may offer! In addition, a special prize will be awarded if a 4 cylinder Porsche pulls off the overall Fastest Time of the Day.)
Of course, the event is open to all licensed drivers in all model Porsches or other brands of car. Trophy mugs will be awarded in the regular PCA classes.
Here’s how it works by the numbers:
· 4 Cylinder means any four cylinder Porsche, be it a carbureted antique or a fuel injected turbo. We will count the cylinders if we have to.
· 2 Teams will be selected by randomly picking numbers from a helmet at the drivers meeting.
· 2 “Ringers” per team limit. (Unless, as is customary, you don’t get caught.) A “Ringer” is defined as a driver who is not the car’s owner, OR a driver who has won a national championship title.
· 1.5 Second reduction in time awarded for cars on street tires. Yes, you read that correctly. A Street tire is defined as a treadwear rating of 200 or more. Make sure you let them know at Registration if you qualify for this bonus.
· 0 Limitations on modifications to the vehicle. Modified cars are welcome, keeping safety in mind as a priority.
· 1 Best run by each driver is used for the scoring
· 2 Slowest times are dropped for each team (so it’s OK to come if you are new to the sport). The remaining drivers’ quickest times are summed, and one team wins. If there are an odd number of drivers, the 3 slowest times are dropped for the team with the additional driver.
· 2 Loaner helmets available, so bring your own if you can.
· 5 Runs per driver expected (Plus the possibility of Fun Runs afterwards.)
· 1 Fastest Time of the Day (FTD). That means faster than any other car that shows up that day, even if it’s a GT-3.
· 1 Extremely lenient event chairman will settle day of event disputes on site.
The intent of a team competition is to generate camaraderie among club members. So let’s keep it light hearted and have some fun out there. Randomly selecting teams may pit friends and family members against each other. That should be fun.
The Fast Four Fest will be held at our usual site at the Zephyrhills Airport. Please see the club website (SFL.PCA.ORG) for directions and more information.
