Are we sure the article wasn't about an engine with a deck plate added?
The whole idea of stroking a b16 never made sense to me unless someone was looking for a sleeper setup with a b16 block stamp.

The Crower stroker kit for b16 has an 89 mm stroke and the Toda has 87.2, so it sounds like crower is using an LS crank and Toda the GSR.

If I were going to be looking at a project with custom rods/pistons, I've always wondered about a b18 block with LS stroke, pins raised .250 and custon rods .250 longer. Would work out to a 1:61 RS ratio, which is a bit better than a GSR. Pop a vtec head on top and you have an LS/Vtec with a very nice rpm ceiling.
