I almost never use the mirrors. Maybe to check if I'm in the lines if I back into a parking space, which I almost never do. I always turn around and look out the back window. I'm also one of those people who backs up three inches, stops, then backs up a bit more- but I do it as a matter of self-preservation. If you just back straight out of a spot in one go in a USF parking garage or parking lot you're certain to be hit by somebody doing 25 MPH and not looking where they're going. I figure that when I back out a foot, stop for a few seconds, back out a little more, then go for it I'm giving people fair warning that I'm coming and I can get far enough out to see traffic instead of backing out blindly. Because inevitably there's two SUVs or trucks parked next to me and I can't see anything until I'm halfway out of the space.
