Default Why 'investment'?

So i've always wondered, why when people mod cars or build them to a higher extent (mild-extreme) show cars, they use the term 'investment' when selling it. We all know that you lose money on mods, and never get back what you have into a car.

Example:
eBay Motors: Nissan : 240SX (item 300194130911 end time Feb-02-08 11:13:16 PST)

''Over $100,000 invested''

If their selling it for $45,000, wheres the investment at? Shouldn't it be a different word?

''Over $100,000 wasted'' would be more appropriate, but no one would honestly put that, because who wants to admit the amount of money they waste on a car? I think we should adapt a new word for local car sales, instead of investment, which is a more honest word. We all know NO cars are investments, except classics.
