Escaflowne was good, though I thought the ending was a letdown. Kinda anticlimactic after everything that happens. I still have the movie stashed somewhere waiting for a hurricane day or something to watch it.

Heh, you want friggin' existentialism go straight to Evangelion. Back in freshman year when I lived in a dorm and did pretty much nothing for a whole year, I once blacked out my window to put the room into total darkness, sat down and watched Evangelion from beginning to end (movies included) while polishing off a bottle of vodka. I wasn't quite right in the head for a few days after that...

BTW, I think you need to give some newer shows a chance. While it's true that there's a lot of garbage out there, there have been a lot of pretty good shows out in the last few years. Samurai Champloo, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Code Geass, Black Lagoon, RahXephon, Full Metal Alchemist, hell I could go on for quite a while just with shows from 2000+ that are in a similar vein to the shows you listed and are top notch.
