I just bought a used 05 STi, at least I thought it was a STi. Got it home from the dealer(Chevy dealer) and started messing with the car. On one side it has the STi badges but on the other it has Imprezza(trunk lid). It does have the STi front bumper though. Looking at the VIN number it looks like someone has replaced it, kind of scratched up and bent funny. I noticed it didnt have much power but didnt want to beat on it with the salesman in the car. I dont see where the turbo is either, theres nothing under the hood bulge, is the turbo supposed to be there? How do I know its a real STi and not some crappy junkyard parts swap? I wish I had paid attention to that badge on the trunk. Oh yeah, its an automatic if that makes a difference, salesman said it was a very rare option. I traded a S2000 for it to get more interior room with good performance. I did get the 100,000 mile warranty for $1,500, car now has 67K, thought it would be a good thing to get if it blows up. Paid an extra 10 grand over trade in value of the 03 S2000, salesman and the finance guy said that was a great deal. What can I do if I find out its not a real STi? Im screwed if I cant prove it. My GF allready is laughing at me if I did get a fake, I really hope its at least a regular WRX.
