dont hit the outer tie rod stud, just hit the steering knuckle, usually that will make them pop out 80% of the time after a few good whacks.If you do need to hit the stud, put the nut on flush with the stud and hit that, though still dont get to crazy with that
Also count the threads it took to take the outer tie rods off the inner tie rods. When it comes to putting it back together this will get you in the ball park for the alignment
