Im not worried about the head gasket just yet. No coolant is leaking into the oil or oil in the coolant. I change the oil in the cars every 2000 miles etc. No signs of coolant in the oil when Its changed either.

Now keep in mind I got the car at 90000 miles. No oil change ever any fluid change brake job nothing until It was given to me after it sat for 3 years. I did new brakes scraped the pastey oil from the pan broke the motor free (it was siezed up) etc. Its ran perfect until this point---with LOTS of work.

Im thinking its the ignition somewhere. Its missing terrible again. I got it to run last night but it sounded as if a plug wasnt firing right. When it was cold I pushed the gas to get going down the road---It would backfire so loud dogs were howling/barking and gangsters were running. Good thing it was dark outside lol. Im gonna try to get another dist cap tonight and rotor. This one only has about 10000 miles on it but its worth a shot.

Once I get it running again...next step is to get a new a/c compressor. I came across about 3 cans of R-12. Once thats fixed Im gonna hook upthe transmission fluid in the washer tank to the carb rig...>

If i cant get it running Ill rig it up and sell it to some mexican.

if the smoke is kinda white-ish and smells funky i would think that might be burnt coolant??? im not very much into diagnosing problems like that once they get beyond the simple answers which you seemed to have already taken care of.

perhaps you need a new head gasket if the CR of each cylinder is different and if indeed you are burning coolant your gasket is shot! and it would be necessary to get a new one. i would probably do that anyways as i think yours probably has never been changed. also on the tranny thats a 3speed auto if i remember correctly? those things are dirt cheap i would assume since theyre old. u can probably pick one up from a junkyard somewhere or get one rebuilt or the likes for 150-300. they shouldnt be much since its older and all.

135k isnt actually much for a toyota engine. well i dunno about the carbd engines but i know the fuel injected ones from around 80-on are usually good for 200000-300000 miles if kept in good order.

good luck. and if u need help doing labor i can help
