Default Question: Front Tension Rods; Urethane vs Pillow Ball Ends

Recently my 240 started to have a minor shake at low speeds and also during normal braking. An inspection of the front of the car revealed that I am in serious need for replacing my front tension rod bushings.
There are a few ways to go with this. One being OEM replacement but since I would consider myself what Tire Rack defines as a "spirited driver" I'm leaning toward a performance upgrade.
I have done some Urethane replacements for a friend in the past and thought they were very nice.
I post this because I was wondering how the pillow ball end tension rods feel on the street? I'm not a track whore so I know all the adjustable rods would be over kill.
Would the Pillow Ball Ended Rods be the same, over kill? Would they ride too harsh? Mind you I done mind a stiff ride but I don't want to feel like my car is gonna explode in the front when I go over a railroad crossing.
