I went to the GM AutoShow in Motion (
www.autoshowinmotion.com) in Orlando at the EPCOT parking lot and had the chance to drive several cars from GM and their competitors.
The best event was the autocross with the Z06 Corvette. That thing was badass. It was a small tight autocross course, about 13 to 17 seconds each lap....you made two laps. It was just enough to tease you. This car is so easy to drive fast. Totally amazing. The power and balance of this car is great! I'm no test driving expert, but to me it seems GM certainly did their homework.
I also drove the new manual tranny Caddy CTS and I drove a BMW 325i auto in comparison. The CTS had way more guts than the BMW, but the BMW handled a bit better, due in part to better tires I think. The Bimmer didn't have the smooth ride the caddy had. The sound system sucked in the 325i, the Caddy's Bose system was cool. The CTS seemed to be every bit as good as the BMW in build quality too. I know many won't agree. I'm not a huge GM fan, just calling it like I see it.
I also drove a Hummer H2 on a little "off road" course. What a neat truck. That thing handles well onroad too. It performed better than the GMC Yukon I drove.
The Z06 was the most memorable. It was neat to drive a automotive legend.
I asked a guy that worked there how these Vettes have been doing since they have been ragged on all day. He told me they have been performing great, only thing they have had to change throughout the event is the tires. They had been running hard 10 to 12 hours a day non-stop for 3 days. And, they do that in several cities.
I believe this will be a yearly event. It is by invitation, however there is a kiosk for walk in registration. Well worth it, they even feed you lunch...all for free with not one salesperson to bug you. It's over this year for our area, but be checking their website for future dates
