If it's your DD car, you don't have to go looking for puddles. After a big rain, there are puddles everywhere, and some which are not avoidable. In Florida, where it rains torrentially every day in the summer, big puddles are common. I'm sure everyone that has hydrolocked a motor, has done so intentionally.
