OK i own a Z31... ive done a lot and was shooting for over 450rwhp on 93... almost made it but the car was vandalized.. car had SDS.. T78. 550cc injectors.. and all the supporting mods for this power... NOW.. my plan was to move all my Z stuff over to a MK3 since ive been hearing good dynocharts from cars with programmable engine management and proper headgasket usage.

The BIG questions are..... First of all, the MK3 weighs more than the Z by a good bit.. how much do the backseats weigh? i dont have rear seats now, why with a MK3....
the back seats are pointless to take out they dont weigh shit. like 5lbs the only foam with that support wire. it looks better just to leave them, fold them down if you want the 2seat look.
the drivers and passenger seats are where you will find a lot of that bulk. they weigh in at around 100lbs togather. some light weigh race seats are a must if you want to save weight
next there is a super heathy layer of tar mat on the bottom of the car take a weekend and get all that up, make sure you paint the metal after is off so it doent rust out on you. lay the carpet back down and you will never miss the tar.
the hood is heavy, theres a carbon fiber one someone makes, its like 10lbs vs 50 or somthing.
the wire harness, haha you want to go dfi toss that wire harness in the trash. or give it to me. i could use one.
im sure after all thats done youll find a few more weighted areas, and i'll think of some more..
my car weighed in at 3380 with gas in it and me in it as well on certified scales.
NEXT.. How strong are your transmissions and differentials.. Nissan's are great under steady load up to 600+ rwhp, but the problem comes with any hard jolts the tranny hits, such as hard powershifts or hard launches on anything but street tires... What would i have to do to a MK3 tranny to make it stronger? How strong is it? is there an OS Giken gearset? does the MKIV tranny bolt on? Does another toyota vehicle have one that is stronger that can be adapted to fit, and what is the cost of rebuilding a supra tranny if there is no other option...
of two supras ive owned, ive never broke a tras, the first supra was an Auto and it had a level 10 kit in it. upgrade clutch packs and modded valveing for "firmer shiftng" or they say, i called it beast shifting. this trans coulda have taken 600hp im sure.
the second supra was a stock manual. i have never looked into upgrades in the trans and ive never seen an os giken or other brand gear set for it, this doent mean it doent exist. they do make a clutch for it tho.
the MKiv trans does not bolt on. sorry, that would have been nice if it did. its pointless to rebuild them. you can get them for about $150-$200
i took care of my cars and thats why the trans never broke. others have not had my luck, ive seen supras go though many transmissions.
i do not think the supra trans is as strong as your Z's trans. if you do find out about a easy trans swap let me know ide be intrested in the info, also you could do what the corolla guys do. the take a celica trans thats much beefer and weld the stock bell housing to the celica trans. you could do somthing like that with the mkiv getreg. some trans tunnel mods would be needed as well, but it sounds like you wouldent mind that for a trans thats known good to 1000hp.
Differentials strong also? and are they LSD or do i have to get an LSD from Kazz or something...
All Turbo supras came with LSD. and all Non turbos that had the sport package (LSD, Tems, rear disk breaks, ABS)
oh ya back to weight savings, loose the ABS it sucks.
Again like the tansmissions a lot of people have broken them. but ive never broken one eather. i guess it just really comes down to how you take care of it.
I suggest redline in the trans and diff.
on a side note. if you are into drag racing get the Non turbo Automatic Diff, its a 4.11 the highest ratio offered. and it came in LSD.
