Expired Insurance
The problem here is, other than the officer being an ass, she has insurance but didn't have the newer insurance card with her and she handed him the old one. The officer gave her a hefty fine that I could not veryify online and I am wondering if this is legal or if they are able to do something like this? He fined her $320 for each infraction, a nice total of $640. On Hillsborough County Clerk of Courts website it shows that those tickets are $76.50 each. Like I said, can these fines be altered? I don't think so and what can be done about something like this? If it was me, I would take it to court but its not really necessary unless you want to go after the officer about the fines cause these tickets just get dropped if you know what your doing. I told her to just take the proof of current insurance to the Clerk and they will toss the one ticket and go get registration and fight the other one if needed.
